commodate late entries, announces

The closing date was originally
April 9; but, since so many have
but recently signified their inten-
tions of submitting manuscripts,
it was dori11,1 to grant this exten-
sion in order to assure greater &-
liberation in the preparation of
essays.
This essay contest is open to the
l•wish young men and women of

Detroit between the ages of 16 and
21. They are invited to submit
their intimate reaction to the sub-
ject "What Judaism MOMS to Me"
in an essay that does not exceed
1,500 words in length.
A major prize of $25 will he
awarded the winning: essay. The
writer of the best essay in each
age-group — for convenience in
judging it has ken deemed feas-
ible to divide contestants into two
groups: one from ages 16 to 20,
the other from 20 to 24—will be
presented with a set of books. The
winner of the major prize will not
be considered eligible for a second-
ary award. Winning essays will
be published in The Detroit Jew-
ish Chronicle.
Essays should be written on one
mole of the paper only', with either
pen or typewriter. Essays should
be mailed to the Essay Committee,
Young: Israel of Detroit, 31 Mel-
bourne avenue, Detroit. They
should be in the hands of the cm-
nittee not later than April 23.
The judges of this contest will
be Bernard Isaacs, principal of the
United Hebrew Schools; Rabbi A.
Mr. Hershman, of the Congrega-
tion Shaarey 'Leda; Philip Shims-
vitz, editor of The Detroit Jewish
Chronicle.

PHILOMATHIC MODEL
MEETING ON MAY 8

The- Philomathie Debating Club
will hold its twenty-seventh annual
model meeting May 8 at the Wnai
Irrith Center, Ferry and Brush.
The participants will be Paul Bru-
ner, Nathan Berke, Max Chomsky,
Albert Pearl, Albert Silber and
Norval Slobin.
The club has chosen "Resolved.
