GLYNN COURT
GARAGE

_!*
Lawyers Have Confidence in
Judge Kilpatrick.

It is gratifying to comment on
the manner in which certain judg-
es of Recorder's Court are turn.
ing their efforts to clean up the
heavy docket of criminal cases.
With the adoption last September
of the new Criminal Code, judges
are permitted to sit as judge and
jury in trials where both defend-
and defense counsel give consent.
Judge Arthur W. Kilpatrick,
who is seeking re-election to the
bench on Recorder's Court, is one
of those who has availed himself
of every opportunity to expedite
matters in that court.
Attorneys and defendants have
shown unlimited confidence in this
jurist when it is shown by figures
recently compiled that Judge Kil-
patrick, since last November, dis-
posed of 153 criminal trials with-
out the presence of a jury. Of
this total, 8-1 defendants were con-
victed by the Court And 69 acquit-
ted.
As against these figures, only 72
cases were tried by juries in the
same length of time, This means
a huge saving of money for the
taxpayers, as well as assisting to
clear a heavy criminal docket.
The thoroughness and fairness
in the disposition of criminal roses
by Judge Kilpatrick is shown in
the fact that during his two years
on the bench, but one case was ap-
pealed to the State Supreme Court.
This one case was affirmed by the.
unanimous vote of that tribunal.
