Louis Lipsky Expected in
Detroit First Week
In December.

By far the most enthusiastic and
best attended meeting sponsored
by Detroit Zionists in recent years
marked the observance here on
Thursday evening, Nov. 8, of the
eleventh anniversary of the Bal-
four Declaration. More than 800
men and women Zionists tilled the
auditorium of the Philadelphia-
Byron Talmud Torah to capacity
and a number were compelled to
stand.
Hun. John Cameron, British Cons
sul, who WAS the guest of honor of
the evening, was given a rousing
ovation when he compared the
common points in the English and
Hebrew peoples, declaring that
these prove the naturalness of a
condition whereby the English
people should sponsor a movement
to revert Palestine to its original
owners.

Describes Agency Meeting.

Fred M. Butzel, a vice-president
of the Detroit Zionist District, who
presided over the evening's pro-
gram, described the conference of
non-Zionists held in New York
City on Oct, 20-21, and at which
he was one of the guests. Mr.
Butzel reviewed in detail the de -
liberations of this conference, the
result of which marks the begin-
ning of co-operation between Zion-
ists and non-Zionists in the, work
for the upbuilding of Palestine as
the Jewish National Home.
Mr. Butzel related the accom-
plishments at the three sessions of
this conference. Ile described the
enthusiasm of the representatives
of both elements affecting the work
for Palestine and particularly
lauded the Hots Louis Marshall for
the manner in which he eondueted
the Agency meetings.

Lauds Melchett, Weismann.

Much credit for the result of the
nun-Zionist conference Was given
by Mr. Ruled to Felix M. War.
burg and Dr. Lee K. Frankel. Mr.
MOM also lauded Lord Melchett,
whose address to the conference he
called the most sentimental, and
Dr. Chaim Weizmann. The lat-
ter's address he called the most
effective he ever heard the world
leader deliver on Palestine.
Joseph Haggai, who was the
Yiddish speaker of the evening,
spoke of the Balfour Declaration as
the Magna Charta of the Jewish
people. 111•. Haggai pointed out
that without the pioneer efforts
of the Zionists the Balfour Dec-
laration might not have come The
idealism of the men and women
in Palestine and of the masses of
Jews outside of Palestine who
dreamed of the land's redemption
were directly responsible for the
historic Balfour utterance on be-
half of the British Government, he
declared.

Mr. C•meron's Address.

The address by Mr. Cameron,
although brief, was extremely in-
teresting. The British statesman
was honored by a rising vote of
the audience as the representative
of the government that is sponsor-
ing Jewish effort in Palestine.
Mr. Cameron pointed out that
the English speaking people have
been influenced by the Old Testa-
ment and it was therefore natural

The Round Table Interprofes-

literary program for 1928-29 on
Friday, Nov. 23, when it will be
addressed by A. J. Levin, attor-
ney, at Temple Beth El, Wood-

and Michigan and is noted for the
interesting manner in which he
handles his topics.
The society has been in exist-

past sponsored lectures by noted
speakers on interesting questions
of the day. During the past three
years the society also held many
interesting debates on questions
vital to American youth.
The lecture by Sir. Levin will
be the first of a series of talks to
be given by members of the Round
Table Interprofessional Society
and other professional men. The
Round Table invites its old friends
to these meetings.

address delivered at the Sunday

Conference on Palestine, held here
