Although a convenience and joy all
year 'round, gas as a source of home
heating is doubly appreciated during
the changeable autumn season.

Then it is, more than at any other
time, that you want perfectly regulated
heat—just enough to take the chill off
but not enough to make one uncom-
fortably warm.

Install gas heat now and be ready for
the first chilly day. While ideally
suited to the changeable days of fall
and spring, gas heat is likewise per-
fectly suited to the rigorous demands
of midwinter.

Gas is the only fuel that needs no
storing—that burns clean without
smoke, ashes, soot, odor or noise. It
is the ideal fuel. It has already proven
itself such in many Detroit homes.

Ask us for further information today.
We will gladly give you, without
obligation, full details regarding in-
stallation and operating costs.

The Jewish Welfare Board play,
"Two Goyim," by Samuel S.
Grossman, has been selected by
the advanced players for their first
performance. Rehearsals are held
every Thursday evening.

The Detroit auxiliary of the
Jewish Consumptive Relief Asso.
dation of California will hold a
special conference at 11 a. m. Sun-
day, Oct. 14, at the Arbeiter Ring
Center, 527 Holbrook. At this
meeting, plans will be forntulated
for the continuance of the organ-
ization, pledges having been given
at a recent meeting of the board
of directors to continue the work
in Detroit.
According to Abraham II. Jelin,
general secretary of the auxiliary,
reports will be submitted to dele-
gates from various Detroit organ-
izations invited to this meeting.

only to this particular section but
to all Jewry.

"We are saving, a number of
children for our own people. We
give them an opportunity to be-
come conscious Jews and Jewesses.
"Furthermore, we are pitching
our tent in a place where the par-
ents themselves—because of their
awn neglect of their Jewish edu-
cation—are, to say the least, in-
different toward such a movement.
Many of the young fathers and
mothers that reside in this section
have never attended a Hebrew
school. The Hebrew language, the
Jewish history, the words of the
prophets, are closed to them with
seven seals. We are doing pioneer
work. It is our intention not only
to provide comfortable class rooms,
efficient teachers, expert manage-
ment, etc., but also to do propa-
ganda work, to invite the parents,
to visit them at their homes if
need be, and to convince them of
the importance of giving their chil-
dren Fl thorough Jewish education."
Mr. Dimon Statement.
Louis Duscoff, chairman of the
building committee, stated that
"no effort has been spared to make
the building a model school build-
ing. The class rooms are bright,
spacious and airy. The waiting
room is provided with a drinking
fountain, the rest rooms are large
and sanitary. There is provision
made in each room for the clothes.
There is sufficient blackboard space
and up-to-date school furniture
The children's desks are of the new
movable type, easily accessible for
cleaning purposes."
Mr. Duscoff, who was also the
chairman of the building commit-
tee and is responsible for the
erection of the beautiful Kirby
and Philadelphia centers, says that
while this newest addition is not
' so large as the Kirby or Philadel-
phia centers it is nevertheless just
as carefully constructed, and as far
as the school proper is concerned,
just as modern in every way. It
has place to accommodate over
500 children. It has u roomy kin-
dergarten and a fine assembly hall.
David Robinson, treasurer of the
schools, states that he is "proud of
the chain of modern school build-
ings erected by the United Hebrew
Schools, 811,1 especially of this new
addition which will serve the needs
of the newly settled Jewish neigh-
borhood."
Mothers' and Children'. Dry.
Sunday, Ort. 21 will be mothers'
and children's day at the new Tux-
edo and Holmur school. Mothers
and children are invited to come
to inspect the new school, between
the hours of 2 and 8 p. m. Re-
freshments will be served. Souve-
nirs will be distributed to the chil-
dren and a continuous musical pro-
gram is arranged for the day. This
mothers' day will be conducted by

BRITISH VIEW ON
AGENCY FRIENDLY

(Continued From Page One).
Jewry in the enlarged Jewish
Agency, Mr. Warburg stated:
"During our sojourn in London ,
Last summer, we held conversations
with the Colonial Office of his
majesty's government. The anti .
tulle of the higher officials was ont •
of the utmost friendliness. They
displayed the keenest interest in
the recommendationns of the
Joint Palestine Surrey Commis-
sion. Their position on the ques-
tion of the enlarged Jewish
Agency promises to be most con-
structive in the great tasks ahead
of us."
His Interest in University.
Questioned regarding the origin
of his interest in the Hebrew Uni-
versity, Mr. Warburg said:
was fearful lest our people, the
people of the Book, should drift
away from their spiritual heritage.
On that account, I felt the danger
of 'irreligiosity' in Palestine, a
danger which awakened my inter-
est in the university. That men
like Dr. Magnes, that outstanding
savants should sacrifice their ca-
rotors and dedicate their lives to
the university, wits cogent evidence
of the vitality of that cultural cen-
ter. I have had the opportunity to
convince myself that the faculty
of the Hebrew university is of the
highest type.
"One of the very important by-
products of the Hebrew University,
in my opinion, is the inspiration it
provides, and will provide to an in-
creasing degree, to people training
for the ministry in other countries.
That young rabbis born and edu-
cated in this country should be
able to complete their course of
learning at such an institution as
the university in Jerusalem is
bound to make for a notable en-
richment of our own life,
"While fully alive to the eco-
nomic importance of upbuilding
Palestine, it is the spiritual role of
Palestine in the life of Jewry

A. Z. A. ACTIVITIES

In preparation for the district,
grand district, and national de.
bating tournaments to be held this
coining year, the Aleph Zadik
Aleph fraternity, Detroit Chapter
No. 63, is to hold its first oratori-
cal tryouts. Inasmuch as the top-
ies usually are about Judaism,
stress is also laid upon the patri-
otic American principles of the
young Jews and Jewesses of to-
day. It is through the intellectual
committee, consisting of Sam Char-
foos, Louis Cohen and I. Sol
Rosenman, that the fraternity has
received local recognition for its
efforts. The issue of the debate
has not been announced but will
be disclosed at the meeting which
is to be held Sunday afternoon, ;t
p. no, at 275 East Ferry avenue.
This affair is invitational.
Plans are being prepared for the
dinner party to be given at the
Oriole Terrace 011 Nov. 11 in lion r
of the newly announced bride-
grooms of the chapter, Al. Ilen-
ricks and Al. Schreiber. This is
to be the first formal fuaction of
the season by the fraternity.
After the last meeting a theater
party was held at the Capitol, fol-
lowed by a dinner at the Chinese
Tea Gardens. The occasion was
the entertainment of th(o 10 new
fraternity pledges. Twelve couples
were present. Next Saturday aft-
ernoon the chapter is to attend
the football game at Ann Arbor in
a body.
