A new cry for help in the face
of starvation and epidemics has
reached the office Of the United
Jewish Campaign from a number
of Jewish communities in Bess-
arabia. Stricken with a total fail-
ure of crops the peasantry of
Bessarabia, according to report ,
received, is again lurching in the
woods, seeking edible leaves and
grass, the cattle is dying, children
are in the grip of epidemic di,
eases. hundreds of Jewish colo-
nists are afflicted in the same
manner and are facing another
year of starvation.
All credit institutions of the
country are facing possible col-
lapse owing to lack of funds and
a falling off of their membership.
A delegation of Bessarabians has
presented the problems of that
country to a group of ministers in
Bucharest but have so far been un-
successful in receiving any aid.

Semitic newspapers were frus-
trated by the action of the fed-
eal ministry of justice us the
result of the intervention of the
Central Union of German Citi-
zens of the Jewish Faith.
The anti-Semitic newspapers
in recent weeks attempted to
present a number of mystery
murders and attacks whieh were
not cleared up by police inves-
tigation in various parts of
Germany as "ritual murder
cases." The Central Union of
German Citizens of the Jewish
Faith intervened with the au-
thorities, who caused the state
attorneys in the localities where
the uncleared cases were record-
ed to issue statements as to the
nature of the cases. Several
such statements were pubiished
giving full descriptions of the
circumstances and persons in-
volved. It appears that these
cases had as their background
sex degeneration. Ritual mur-
der suspicion is out of the ques-
tion, the state attorneys empha-

New Credits of Joint-Ica.
Than far the situation has been
relieved only by the new credits
granted to the Jewish co-opera-
tives by the Joint-Ica Foundation
at its recent meeting in Paris. A
recommendation presented by the
managing directors, Dr. Bernhard
Kahn and L. Oungre, was ap-
proved by the managing board and
provided for a new fund of $00.000
to be used for further credits to
the Jewish Co-operative Loan So-
cieties.
An additional fund of $10.000
was voted to help the new Jewish
colonists in making payments to
the government for land allocated
to them. The first $10,000
granted for this same purpose at
the close of 1924 has aided 400
families of new settlers in estab-
lishing themselves on the land.
The larger part of this first fund
has already been repaid. The
Foundation has also extended a
credit of $5,000 to supplement a
previous $20,000 grant, in Novem-

MOSCOW.—(J. T. A.)--The
Soviet government would permit
the establishment of state schools
with Hebrew as the language of
instruction, in accordance with the
Soviet law, provided the Jews
would agree among themselves,
declared Soviet Commissar of Edu-
cation Lunatcharsky in an inter-
view granted Israel Chipkin of the
Jewish Education Association of
New York, who is now on a visit
here. The chief obstacle, Lunat-

however, that the Jews will solve
the problem to their own satisfac-
tion.
The Soviet law permits religious
worship and instruction in supple-
mentary schools provided the chil-

the prescribed two years' attend-
ance at the state schools. Paro-
chial schools are. however, for-
