day with programs of unusual
merit on both stage and screen.
The Hollywood is celebrating its
first birthday, as it was thrown
open to Detroit theatergoers just
one year ago this week.
The motion picture feature to,
the bill opening Sunday and con-
tinuing four (lays is "Gang It'ar,"
the underworld thriller starring
Jack Pickford and Olive Borden.
Headlining the big vaudeville
show will be Rae Samuels, known
as the "blue streak of vaudeville."
She is one of the best known and
most popular entertainers on the
stage.
About a decade ago, from a
small Ohio town, a little girl with
a melodious voice and a wild am-
bition hit out for Chicago. Start-
ing in a little movie house on the
South Side, where she was sand-
wiched in between reels with a bit
of singing, this girl was soon dis-
covered by vaudeville managers,
who quickly claimed her for their
theaters. And today we have the
sanw Itr.e Samurhe, "The Blue
Streak of Vaudeville," one of the
most effervescent personalities
and joyous songstresses on the
stage.

Temples to Gods and palaces for
kings, through long years were the
unly outlets for architectural
&comings until the significance of
art in 'daily life become manifest
and pervaded the buildings of in-
timate use. This Renaissance, as
one might call it, entering the field
of motion picture exhibition, has
resulted in the creation of palatial
edifices, admirably exemplified in
the new Fox Theater, which open-
ed on Friday evening at Wood-
ward avenue and Columbia street.
This newest addition to the Will-
iam Fox circuit of theaters reach-
ing from coast to coast, is said by
many artists and architects who
have seen its interior, to surpass
in beauty, comforts and appoint-
ments anything yet achieved in
theater design. Erected at a cost
of approximately 512,000,000 in ac-
cordance with the elaborate plans
of C. Howard Crane, the architect,
and under the supervision of the
Arenberg-Fried Corporation, the
builders, this newest temple of
amusement is second only to the
Rosy in New York for size and
second to none in the world for
beauty. With a seating capacity
of 0,000 it takes its place in the
oremost of the world's leading
how places.
