ON ROSH HASHONAH THE JEW PRAYS
FOR ALL ISRAEL AND ALL MANKIND

By RABBI LEON FRAM

L'Skona TOVII Tikosevo.

According to the best Jewish tradition, the New
Year is not the time to pray for prosperity of farm
or factory or office or shop or job. On the New
Year the Jew forgets himself and prays for his
community, for all Israel, and for all mankind.
He prays that his community may increase in moral
quality, that Israel may grow in spiritual character.
that mankind may prosper in the realization of
ideals.
The responsible member of the Detroit Jewish
community will, on this New Year, express his
aspiration for:
A Jewish community that more adequately pro-
vides for its needs, that cares for its sick and handi-
capped and disabled, and that provides whole-
some recreation and sociability for its youth.
A Jewish community that carries out its wider
responsibilities, that aids its unfortunate sister-
communities in other lands, and that does its share
in the upbuilding of Palestine.
A Jewish community which realizes that Jew-
ish education is the chief concern of every Jew,
there there is no more important call upon our
means, upon our energy and upon our time than
the cause of educating our children to love the
Jewish people, to know the Jewish story, to wor-
ship in the Jewish faith and to live in accordance
with Jewish ideals.
A Jewish community which offers a stimulat-
ing example 19 its youth by loyalty to the syna-
gogue and by the practice of worship not only on
these special Sabbaths, the New Year and the Day
of Atonement, but on every Sabbath throughout
the year.
A Jewish community which, through fostering
its own institutions, performs the high service of
enhancing the spiritual life of America and of all
mankind.

We extend best wishes for a hap=
py and prosperous New Year to
all our friends and policyholders.
May the year just beginning
bring realization to your found-
est hopes and ambitions.
