The original plans of the build-
ing called for a three-unit struc-
ture with the main 10-story di-
vision occupying 50 feet frontage
on West Huron street and extend-
ing back 100 feet on Wayne. A
six-story ramp garage was to join
the main unit on Wayne street and
extend 120 feet on Clinton street.
The project was to be filled out by
two-one-story store buildings built
on Wayne street.
Since contracts were signed and
work started an the project, the
owner, Mrs. Mittie A. Riker, has
decided on some exterior altera-
tions which will not affect the gen-
eral construction but will give
added beauty.
Construction of the building's
exterior will be carried out in cut
stone on the first floor while the
upper floors will be of brick with
stone trimmings.
In the basement of the 10-story
unit will be a large mom suitable 1,1
for a restaurant or store purposes Li
The first floor will have two stores,
each 20 by CO feet, with Huron
street entrances. They will be
separated by a long glassed corri-
dor leading to an arcade in the
rear with four smaller stores.
Two Otis elevators operated by
compressed air will be installed t"
convey persons to the nine floors
of offices. Each floor will have a
corridor and 11 offices, all with
electricity, gas, water and com-
pressed air and with outside light-
Mg. Although the building will be
of fireproof construction, a sprink-
ler system will .be installed as an
added precaution.
Idalcomsun & Higginbotham, De-
troit, are the architects for the
Riker Building and the general
contract for its construction is in
the hands of the Sheldon Construe-
, tion Company, also of Detroit.
