Jewish ideals and practices, by an earnest solici-
tude for the moral and religious upbringing of our
children, by a keen interest in the upbuilding of
our Jewish Homeland, by a fuller recognition of
the duties we owe our people here and abroad.
May the year dawning upon us make for a new
consecration to the cause of Judaism and for a
quickening of our will to remain faithful and loyal
to our sacred heritage.

Again the call of the Shofar will be heard
throughout the land, to usher in a New Year.
What it holds in store for us we must await and
see, but the past is as an open book which we can
read, study, and possibly benefit by.
As in other years we Jews of Detroit have
labored in behalf of every worthwhile cause to
uplift our people throughout the Jewish world.
Money has been generously given to upbuild our
beloved Palestine, to aid our brethren in Russia to
settle on the soil, for the upkeep of Yeshivahs,
orphan asylums, old folks homes, and others too
numerous to mention. Now let us retrospect what
we have done for ourselves.
Detroit is almost alone among the large cities
of this country without a Jewish llospital for which
there is at the present time a crying need. The
Old Folks Home is in a deplorable condition, our
Orphan Home is full to overflowing, our Jewish
young men and women should have a proper "Y."
Why are we so backward in a city known
throughout the world as Dynamic? We have the
men, the money, but sadly lack the initiative.
Therefore, let us this coming year combine our
forces whether Orthodox or Reform, American or
European-born Jew, put our shoulders to the wheel
and in addition to all the well worth while things
we have done in the past, put Detroit Jewry on the
map that we may be on a par with our sister cities
of America.

OUR GOOD WISHES ARE COMING
TRUE

By RABBI REUBEN HURWITZ

Year in and year out we address ourselves, one
to another, on the occasion of our New Year, with
kindly greetings and good wishes.
It should be a source of joy to know that we
are really making progress as Jews In America.
Our good wishes are evidently coming true.
May the coining year be a very happy one for
all Israel.
