The Mutual Loan Association is
composed 'of small business MO)
and workingmen who joined to-
gether for the purpose of helping
one another financially to start in
business, to purchase goods, to
build a house, to tiring folks from
the old country, to establish a home
for the family or for any other sim-
ilar purfatse. Money is raised by
having menhirs purchase shares
for a nominal price each, and usu-
ally to a certain limit. From this
money the members are given out
loans, a certain amount per each
share, decided upon by the board of
directors, and to lie paid in weekly
payments within a year, the loan
bet rig secured by endorsers. Thus,
it private convert] would furnish a
source of ineume for several people,
whereas this group aims to derive
benefits for themselves bjeause the
mane) that comes in as interest on
althe loan—after deducting the
usual expense of rent, financial see-
irtary and recording secretary—is
returned to the members in form of
rebates in proportion with the
shares.
TO make this method of financing
more concrete, the Wayne County
Co-Operative League meets every
Tuesday night in the Turover
Temple, corner Marston and 1101-
re.. In its fifteen years of ex-
isnonce it has raised its shares from
810 to ;9375, its loans {r e m $2.5 to
5751, alit! it S membership from 25
to 225. It claims to its credit the

families and businesses. It is still

grown to its maturity in these
years, the organization has decided
to replenish its ranks with new and
younger elements and, therefore,
has dropped the usual $10 initia-
tion fee until Jim. 1919. It invites
Jews of fine character and inter-
ested in helping themselves finan-
cially to came and partake of the
benefits it offers. One may start
with as low as 5 shares of $10 each.

MRS. LENA ISENBERG
of 56 Dwight street, Pontiac,
passed away on Aug. 14 at the age
of 4E, at St. Mary's Hospital, De-
troin, after an illness of one year.
Mrs. Isenberg was the daughter
of Mr. Abraham Meretsky. She is
survived also by her husband,
Maurice; two daughters, Ruse and
Hilda; two sons, Irving and Dan-
iel; two brothers, Abe and Sant
Meretsky; and a sister, Mrs. Mor-
ris Rosen. Burial took place
from her late resilience on Aug. 15.
