A Word of Appreciation
and Explanation to Our
Many Jewish Friends and
Patrons in Michigan:
The spirit of comradeship created between my or-
ganization and our many Jewish friends and patrons
has been so congenial that I do now, as I have previ-
ously, through the columns of The Detroit Jewish
Chronicle, express gratitude and appreciation for it.
An unfortunate incident last Sunday, however, at
the Blue Lantern Ballroom, at Island Lake, somewhat
marred this pleasure.
It so happened that, in accordance with our iron-,
clad rule of admitting to our ballroom only such per-
sons as will make for a refined and well mannered
patronage, three couples, who in this particular
instance happened to be Jewish, were refused admit-
tance. They gathered about them other Jewish pa-
trons, and spread the word around that Jews were not
wanted on the Blue Lantern dance floor.
THAT CHARGE WAS NOT TRUE, and the man-
agers of the Blue Lantern have not used the term
"Jew." It was first employed when the couples who
were refused admittance deliberately passed the un-
true word around that Jews were being discriminated
against by my organization.
I wish to express regret to those in the group who
were maliciously led to believe that they and their peo-
ple were discriminated against. I regret that we should
have lost their refined and welcome company at the
dancing party, and I regret a thousand times more that
they should have been led to believe such an untruth.
I have confidence that my thousands of Jewish
friends and patrons, whom we are happy to welcome
to our ballrooms in Detroit and vicintiy, will not believe
the allegations.
JEAN GOLDKETTE
