"IF I WERE KING"

An Interview With Prince Carol of Rumania

By RENEE STRAUS

Within the last three years, no elltilitrY in t h e world lion
elicited as much attention from the Jewish people as the land
of Rumania. The hot-bed of anti-Semitism, it has committed
excesses against Rumanian Jews at every occasion. The last
12 months were bitter for Rumanian Jews. Changing govern-
ments found them the scapegoats.
Then- is one nian today around whom the destiny of
Rumania revolves.
Ile is P rince Carol, an exile, who was
recently driven fnut England. Ile gave up his right to th•
thro n e to live with Madam Ltit,eSCii, a Jewess. What would
Prince Car.' do if he were 'sing of Rumania? 'Dial is the
startling question put to him by Renee Straus in an interview
in London, before ('ar i l was banished from England. How
would Carol treat the Jews of his country? What is his atti-
tude toward them? These are the questions answered by the
prince. 'this interview, the very first of its kind, is of far-
relishing political importance.
