What Is Water Made Of?
Every substance is made of very
small particles, which are exactly
of the same material as the whole,
but each of which is so small as to
be incapable of being seen indi-
vidually. A heap of flour consists
of a number of tiny grains, and a
vessel of water is made up of tiny
particles that we might think of as
"grains" of water. These grains
of water. however, are too small
to be visible, and in any case we
could not distinguish them, on ac-
count of their ability to cling so
very close together. These tiny
particles are called "molecules."
