to America. In the meantime the

left her daughter, had become ill
and was unable tb make provision
for the care of Nadia, who had
been left in her charge. The
mother in Seattle for a long period
had received no word from her
child and invoked the aid of the
National Council of Jewish Wo-
men to trace her daughter. After
several weeks, the efforts of the
National Council of Jewish Wo-
men were rewarded and the child
was found in Harbin and provision
made for medical attention so that
the child might regain its health
after the long period of neglect.
Nadia will begin her trip to
Seattle from Harbin, China, as
soon as a family is found that is
traveling to America from China,
and is willing to assume the care
of the child during the journey.
The Council's Department of
Immigrant Aid has made its serv-
ice available to many families in
the United States and abroad in
the adjustment of cases that re-
quire international action.

When 'William Rothman of Newark,
N. J., married after the death of
his first wife, Mrs. Anna Rothman,
who is of Irish descent, his father,
Abraham Rothman of this city,
with whom Seymour Rothman, 10-
year old son of William Rothman
had been living, put the boy in the
Hebrew National Orphans Home in
Yonkers. The grandfather, an Or-
thodox Jew, wanted the boy reared
in the Hebrew faith, which he
feared would not be done if Sey-
mour made his home with his fath-
er and step-mother.
The boy's father obtained a writ
of haheaus corpus which was heard
before Justice Levy, who is head of
the Yonkers orphanage. The grand-
father pleaded for custody of his
grandson so that his Jewish train-
ing might continue.
The boy's father insisted upon his
right to have his boy with him. At
this point Mrs. Anna Rothman. the
step-mother, volunteered to em-
brace the Hebrew faith, whereupon
Justice Levy turned Seymour over
