If New York or Chicago or Phil-

spirited Jews, how much more
would be accomplished by the Jew-
ish communities of these great
centers of population! Yet Mem-
phis and Nashville Jewries are
hardly ever heard of except when
some notable personage visits them.
That indeed is what gives them a
news value at present. Mr. Cohen,
of the B'nai li'rith Order, visited
these communities on Friday, Sat-
urday and Sunday, November 18,
19 and 20. The occasion of this
visit was the celebration in each of
these cities of their annual B'nai
B'rith days.
Friday evening, November 18,
WAS B'nai B'rith evening at the
Children of Israel Temple of Mem-
phis. President Cohen was guest
of honor, and his talk on "Mile-
stones in Jewish Life," being as it
was a graphic outline of Jewish
history from the earliest times
down to the present, was followed
intently by the congregation. Sat-
urday morning, Mr. Cohen spoke
at the Baron de Hirsch synagogue,
the leading Orthodox congregation
of the city, and again at the Chil-
' dren of Israel Temple.
Going to Nashville, Mr. Cohen
was entertained at a luncheon,
Sunday noon, at the Woodmount
Country Club. Ilere the distin-
guished guest spoke of the work of
the Union of American Ilebrew
Congregations. As president of the
hoard of governors of the Hebrew
Union College, Mr. Cohen is par-

gave an outline of its purposes. He
told how the order functions in 21
countries besides the United States

the Jewish people.
Especially interesting were the
observations the speaker made on
