JEWISH EDUCATION
IS GREATEST NEED

By Jonah J. Goldstein,
New York.

What we Jews have most to fear
is not anti-Semitism but spiritual
race suicide. If the Jewish chil-
dren of today are not given a Jew-
ish education, in two or three gen-
erations there will be no Jews in
the United States.
The world only respects those
who respect themselves. The Eng-
lishman points with pride to his
ancestors, be they dressed in ar-
mor or in silk knickers with ruf-
fled collars. The American points
with pride to his ancestors who
came over on the Mayflower,
though dressed, from our view
point of today, in odd raiment.
The Christians point with pride
and reverence to the bearded dis-
ciples and the founder of their
faith.
Only the Jews, lacking a Jewish
education, are in danger of losing
their self-respect and then losing
the respect of the world for them.
Giving our children a Jewish
education is more important than
endowing them with wealth alone.
Giving our children a Jewish edu-
cation is our best insurance that
they will remain Jews.
