Every city, town or religious
community that has any organiza-

ization to some (outstanding man
or group of man. In Ann Arbor
the credit for whatever the Jewish
community has accomplished be-
longs almost entirely to one man—
Oasis Zwerdling.
Oasis Zwerdling was born in
Galicia ill 1878. Ile came to Amer-
ica id 1901, staying in New York
until 1903 when he moved to Ann
Arbor, where he continued to work
at his trade as a tailor and furrier.
In 1904 he became the head of the
fur department of Ann Arbor's
largest department store.
With his business ability and
knowledge of furs, Mr. Zwerdling
opened his own store on Main
street in 190a. Ile was a distinct
success from the start and soon

Mr. Zwerdling's early training
had always been to the effect that
decisions of every nature should
be made in the synagogue, the

motivating force behind it from
the start. No Jewish affair is even
considered until NU% Zwerdling has
given his opinion, no Jewish pro-
