Within the last four years Ann Arbor has completely rebuilt or remndeled and modernized every grade school building in the city. Six grade buildings, having an av- erage capacity of 500 pupils each, resulted fro mthis progressive school policy. Every one of these buildings is equipped with shops, library, gymnasium, auditorium, home economics and science rooms and kindergaten. Many of them are surrounded by a large play- ground and all are architecturally beautiful. Ann Arbor is not satisfied with merely fine school buildings; the work that goes 011 inside of these school buildings in transforming the kindergartner to the citizen who must be responsible for the social, political, educational and economic development of the city, state and nation is the vital thing. That this may be done with skill and precision, a great effort has been made to bring to Ann Arbor a teaching corps of a highly pro- fessional character, and to that end an attractive salary schedule has been established. Ann Arbor becomes the educational center of the state by virtue of having with- in its border the great University of Michigan. The citizens of Ann Arbor take a just pride in seeing that the city school syatem keeps pace with the marvelous develop- ment taking place on the univer- sity campus. The typical American wants his children to succeed. He wants them to have every educational ad- vantage necessary to success. Ann Arbor is meeting this demand by furnishing not ordinary, but su- perior, educational opportdnities for its boys and girls, its young men and young women, Ann Ar• bar's greatest asset is its educa- tional facilities. On account of the pres- ence of the University, it number of the churches are able to provide an unusually fine course of lectures as part of their activities in the interest of young and old alike. There are also a number of private institu- tions. The St. Josephs Mercy hos- pital has 200 beds and is favored with a very fine medical staff.
