WOMAN TO APPEAL
BRUTAL SENTENCE

"Your honors, defendant is
charged with one of the most
serious crimes known to the
Jewish community," declared
Irving Greenberg, prosecuting
attorney, before the official
court of the Mothers' Camp, lo-
cated at Forrester, Mich., on
Lake Huron.
-What, specifically, are the
charges?" inquired Associate
Justices Mary Caplan and Mrs.
Lillian Jacobs.
"Defendant is charged by the
good citizens of this commun-
ity with having thrown away a
copy of The Detroit Jewish
Chronicle instead of putting it
in the office and giving others
a chance to read it," the prose-
cutor almost shouted.
Placed on the stand in her
own behalf, the defendant, Mrs.
Friedgut, admitted the facts as
charged, but pleaded for mercy,
maintaining that in her hurry
she mistook The Chronicle for
another good Jewish paper.
But the plea availed her noth-
ing, the judges declaring that
such a mistake was unforgiv-
able.
Mrs. Fricidgut was sentenced
to exist without reading The
Chronicle for a period of two
weeks. It is understood that
she will appeal her case, claim-
ing brutal and unusual punish-
ment.

PRICES REDUCED
BY FRIGIDAIRE

New Small Model Household Re-
frigerator Cut to $180.

A $15 price reduction on one of
its small model household electric
refrigerators has been announced
by the Frigidaire Corporation, in
conjunction with decreases in the
selling price of its porcelain house-
hold cabinets and cooling coils de-
signed for commercial installa-
tions.
The lowest priced Frigidaire
now sells for $180 factory price,
a decrease of $45 from the price
of a unit of like size one year ago
and a decrease of $570 from the
price of the smallest unit on the
market five years ago, according
to E. G. Biechler, president and
general manager, who announced
the reductions.
"This particular model has met
with great popularity wherever it
ha. bc.en viewed. As a result we
"'rise been shipping it in ever-in-
. ',sing numbers and have now
o ohed a volume of production
with it where a price decrease is
I.ossible. We are accordingly pass.
mg on this saving to prospective
purchasers, confident that it will
1.-suit in still further enlarging
Sr market."
The Frigidaire now selling for
$1 5 a was placed on the market
last spring to sell for $195. It was
the result of many years' work on
the part of Frigidaire engineers
and presented some new ideas in
construction never before used in
the line. The most notable fea-
ture was the construction of the
entire cooling mechanism as a
single unit, placed in the top of
the cabinet.
Coincident with the announce-
ment of the price reduction came
the addition of a larger cooling
toil to the commercial line. This
coil m adapted to heavy duty com-
mercial refrigeration, and consid-
erably broadens the field of com-
mercial refrigeration service, Mr.
Biechler said.

KANSAS CITY. Kan. -- (J.
T. A.1—.A decision on what
day of the week is the Sabbath,
as named in the Kansas laws,
will be made soon when Lewis
Linx ithes to trial charged with
violation of the law prohibiting
motion pictures on the Sabbath.
Linz, a Jew, operated his
theater lost Sunday and aroused
the indignation of the minis-
ters' alliance.
It is Linx's contention that
he did not violate the state law
in that the statute declares that
showing of motion pictures on
"the Sabbath shall be prohibit-
ed." Line declares his Sabbath
day is Saturday and that as all
the employes of his theaters
are either of the Jewish faith
or are Severth Day Adventists,
they aid not violate the law.
The district court at Winfield
will be called upon to decide
whether Linx can be prose-
cuted.

JERUSALEM.-1.1.
A

tuns has just been issued here by'
Ur. Herbert Darby, well-known
scholar and publicist and residen-
tiary Canon of St. George's Ca-
thedral, in Jerusalem. last year
Dr. Hanby transated from the He-
brew Dr. Joseph Klausner's book,
"Jesus of Nazareth.”
The book represents live lectures
delivered by the author last year
in London and previously in Jeru-
salem.
It deals with the Jewish
attitude towards Christianity from
its inception up to the present
time.
While arguing as a Christian
and an active servant of the
church, the author takes an im-
partial attitude towards Jewry
from the point of view of Jewish.
Christian relations. The "profes-
sion de for of the author is con-
tained in the following two pas-
sages:
"The more Christians have con-
formed to the spirit of Christ, the
more has Jewish respect been
drawn to Christianity- and to
Christ. The farther Christians
have drawn back from following
after Jesus in spirit and truth, so
have Christians brought into dis-
credit Christianity and Christ
Himself."
And is little further:
"If the
Jew did, in truth, become the deep-
est hater of Christianity. it was
most certainly the Christian who
