It states that last year "if the great estates protected

1Jewish Students Protest Refus•I
of Bail to Lespesianu.

BUCHAREST.-(J. T. A.)-The
hunger strike declared by the Jew-
. ish student, Lespesianu, who is held
in prison for shooting in self-de-
, tense, was debated yesterday in On
Roumanian parliament.
An interpellation to this effect
was introduced by the Jewish dip- .
!uty, Meyer Ebner, representative
!from Bukowina. Asking the gov
ernment whether it knows why Les-
pesianu declared the hunger strike,
he formulated a demand that the
prisoner be released on hail. The
Minister of Justice gave no reply
to the question.
A public protest against the con-
tinued imprisonment of Lespesianu
was made today by the Association
of Jewish students at the Univer-
sity of Bucharest. In their protest ;
the Jewish students declare that
Lespesianu, who is merely a victim •
of the intolerable position of the
Jewish students who are being con-
stantly attacked at the Roumanian
universities. should not be held in
prison until his trial. The associa-
tion points out that the Roumanian
students who attacked the Jewish
students remain unpuni.hed, while
the single Jewish student who de-
fended himself by shooting into the
air is held in prison for many
months.
