Paul Specht, conductor of the
world-famous orchestral artists, now
a permanent feature of the Regent
Theater, at Woodward and Grand
boulevard, has an interesting career.
He studied music at the Combs Con-
servatory, taking complete courses
in piano, violin and theater music.
Then followed a brilliant series of
successes when he came to Detroit
six years ago and appeared with his
orchestra at the Addison, making a
distinct hit.
In New York Paul Specht and his
orchestra was for a long time the
musical sensation of the big town.
But Detroit called him again and,
with pleasant memories of his many
friends and admirers here, he re-
turned to take up the baton in newly
remodeled Regent Theater, the won-
der theater of the boulevard.
Interviewed at the Regent Thea•
ter, Mr. Specht expressed his views
concerning the music of America.
"Syncopated classical music is recog-
nized the world over as being a dis-
tinctly American type of music," he
said "In Europe this type of mu-
sical art is sweeping the continent."
That syncopated music of the
American variety is now so popular
in Europe is largely due to the fact

plant. With daily shipments keeping
pace with production, the Nash Ra-
cine plant was moving at high speed
while both the Kenosha and Milwau-
kee plants were both active.
The first Nash light six was shipr id
from Racine in June two years ago,
the plant having been bought by the
Nash Motors Company a year pre-
viously. Brand new machinery,
thoroughly modern in design, was in.
stalled in the factory and because of
heavy demand fur the light six addi-
tional machinery and equipment were
installed last fall to meet the stead-
ily increasing demand.
Reports from the Nash factory
show heavy increases in Canadian
sales of Nash advanced six, special
and light six models this year "Cr
1926. The increase for April, 1927,
was 103 per cent over April, 1629.
More Nash cars were shipped to Can-
ada last month than during the entire
year 1923.

that Mr. Specht has organized and
sent to Europe no less than 19 or-
chestras. In this country he has had
as many as 11 orchestras touring the
Keith circuit at one time.
It was he who started the idea of
syncopation,
rhythmic
symphonic
soon afterwards copied by I'aul
Whiteman, Lopez and all the rest of
the orchestra leaders.
Mr. Specht is a dark-haired, good-
looking man 31 years old, tall and
well built. He was born of Pennsyl-
vania Dutch stock in Sinking Springs,
Pa. His father, a musician, too, has
been engaged in training the choir
and band of the countryside. It was
in the band that Paul Specht got his
start.
Paul Specht believes that sync°.
tinted classical music is a fine educe-
thin for the young people of Amer-
ica who have little or no training in
music.
Through the syncopation of them,
the classics are broadcast throughout
the entire country, which otherwise
would know little about them.
Through syncopation the master-
pieces familiar only to those who
have studied music are made more
colorful and interesting and popular
to the general populace.
The Paul Specht orchestra now at
the Regent is the original one with
which the famous conductor won
fame and fortune. With these vet-
eran artists he has broadcast over
Station WJZ, New York, and made
records for Columbia.
