Not alone did the concert demonstrate the value of semi-professional mu- sical organizations, but also proved to those present that good music can be ; played to good advantage by others than virtuosi. Dr. Stark Gunzburg, prominent lo- , cal pianist, acted in the dual role of conductor and soloist. He chose to play for his solo the Tschaikowsky piano concerto, No. 1, which number found him fully capable. Dr. Gunz- burg has a lighting technique and produces a brilliant tone. As con- doctor, he showed that he is compe- tent to lead such an organization as the lt'nai B'rith symphony. Howard Frenzel, who led the orchestra for the solo, should be praised for his able assistance. The program consisted of the over- ture to "The Marriage of Figaro," by Mozart, the Haydn symphony in C ' major, opus 97, Auber's overture, "The Bronze Horse," and the Tschai- ' kowsky "Capriccio Italien." All were played with understanding and sym- pathy. 1 WOMEN'S LEAGUE WILL HEAR RABBI FRAM Next Wednesday evening at 8:15 p. m. the Northwestern Women's League of the United Hebrew Schools of Detroit will hold its first Mothers ' and Daughters' Day program at the Byron and Philadelphia Branch of the United Ilebrew Schools.
