torical contest held at Ann Arbor on
March 25. Mrs. Steinberg, who is a
senior in the literary college of the
university, captured the prize in cost-
petition with four men and, as victor,
will represent the university at a final
oratorical contest to be held at the
University of Iowa on April 29. Nine
Middle-Western universities will send
representatives to this contest. Mrs.
Steinberg was presented with the
Paul Gray testimonial of $100 and
the Chicago Alumni medal for excel-
lence in (oratory.
Iler oration, "The Battalion of
Life," was a challenge to women
throughout the world to mass forces
on behalf of world peace. In her
thesis she pointed to the present
chaos in China as inolicative of man's
failure to establish international ac-
cord and declared that "the war to
end wars in reality was a prophecy
of worse wars to come."
Mrs. Steinberg, who was Miss
Elizabeth I,. Rabinoff before her
marriage, has charge of dramatics,
debating and oratory at the Jewish
Centers Association and is assisting
Jacob S. Pearlstein, recently appoint-
ed educational director, in his plans
for contests among the various clubs
and groups at Melbourne Center. At
present, she is busily engaged in
coaching members of the Bhatrika
Club, a senior group, in A. A. folilny's
amusing skit, "'fhe Man in the Bowl-
er Hat." The ploy will be presented
to the public at Southeastern Iligh
School on April 7. The members of
the Ithatrika Club attended the Ann
Arbor oratorical contest in a body to
hear Mrs. Steinberg,
