His works reached that stage whereby he was able to exhibit them in the art salons of the United States and in those of Paris, France, and masters in pronouncing judgment on these works gave the pleased utterance that Mr. Cashwan was a young man who should go far in the field of art. They further showed their pleasure in his creations by the kind of manifestation which the world of art confers upon its fol- lowers of more than passing merit, and Mr. Cashwan can be listed as having received such distinctions as: Two medals in the Ecole de Beaux Art of New York; a purchase of his marble statue, "Shelter," by the Stat.? of Michigan in the year 1922; the award of the Scarab gold medal for a group of five sculptures in 1924; the award of the Florence Ilelbig prize for the best piece of sculpture shown at the Michigan Artists Exhi- bition held at the Detroit Institute of Art under the auspices of the Scarab Club, in 1926; also the num- bering of a piece of his work in the permanent collection of the Detroit Museum of Art. Recently Mr. Cashwan returned to Detroit, his home, from a few months' visit to Paris, where he studied art conditions and tendencies.
