ROSEN ARRIVES IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW.—(J. T. A.) — Dr. Jo-
seph A. Rosen, head of the Agro-
joint, the agency of the Joint Distri-
bution Committee in Soviet Russia,
arrived here. When interviewed by
the representative off the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency, Dr. Rosen stated
that he was sure that enough land
for the settlement work for this year
will be allotted in the Crimea.

Dorlaring that "religion must take
cognizance of the real facto of lire,"
and that Reform Judaism can never
be in conflict with true science," Lud-
wig Vogelstein, chairman of the exe-
cutive board of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations opened the ses-
sions of the thirtieth council of the
Union Monday morning by reviewing
the accomplishments of the union tend-
ing toward the strengthening of Lib-
eral Judaism in this country and indi-
cating the place that religion must
occupy in modern society. Simultan-
eously Mrs. J. Walter Freiberg opened
the busines sessions of the seventh bi-
ennial assembly of the National Fed-
eration of Temple Sisterhoods and
Roger W. Straus presided at a meet-
ing of the executive board of the sec-
ond convention of the National Feder-
ation of Temple Brotherhoods. This
organization officially opened its con-
vention sessions during the afternoon.
A meeting was also held of the execu.
tive board of the Central Conference
of American Rabbis.
In his address Mr. Vogelstein stated
that the presence in Cleveland of about
1,500 men and women traveling from
all parts of the country was in itself
disproof of the claim that Reform Ju-
daism was losing its hold on the sec-
ond and third generations. Ile traced

tically uninhabited. By reason of
his experience and untiring efforts,
he has already succeeded in building
up a Yeshiva where 200 students are
now being trained for the rabbinate.
The Yeshiva forms a nucleus around
which it is hoped will be built up a
flourishing and prosperous Jewish
community, and in order that this
may be done it is necessary that suf-
ficient funds be collected to build a
modern Yeshiva with adequate facili-
ties where the students may be
housed and cared for during their)
student period.
When interviewed as to the reason
wh ye

stein said "European Jewry is un-1
able at the present time to supply
sufficient money to build the neces-
sary buildings to house the Yeshiva.
I know that American Jews are gen-
erous and particularly is this true in
matters touching the Torah. The Ye-
shiva at Hebron is for the purpose of
building up a Jewry whose founda-
tions are based upon the Torah. For
this reason I have come to America
to ask American Jews to help main-
tain traditional Judaism in an en-
vironment most congenial to it."

(Continued from Page One.)

The total amount received by the
North End Clinic for the equipment
and endowment fund is, thus far,
$6,100. Several other persons have
signified their intention of contribut-
ing to these funds and their names
will be published as their memorials
are received. One hundred and fif-
teen dollars has been received toward
the reserve fund of memorial gifts in
memory of people or in honor of an-
niversaries and happy occasions;
$167.43 from other sources has been
added to this fund, giving a total of
$282.83.

Things You
Cannot Do

It would be imnossible for you
to analyze all the fuel you use
to heat your home. It is itne
possible for you to extract all
of the heat from the coal you
put into your furnace.
But your Gas Company, with
its modern scientific equip.
ment and methods, extracts
from coal and gas oil the maxi.
mum amount of heat and in
turn sends it to you with the
smallest amount of waste.
Because of these modern
facilities we can provide you
with heat at rates "which are
lower than those existing in
any other similar city in
America."
