Belle Baker at Temple.

Belk Baker, the incomparable sing-
ing comedienne, with some brand new ,
song hits, headlines the bill at B. F. 1
Keith's Temple Theater fur next week'
starting Sunday afternoon. Miss
Baker is justly famous, as there are
few who can sing a ballad with such
pathos or a jazz number in such de-
lightful abandon. Others billed: Jack
Norworth, assisted by Dorothy Adel-
phi, Countess Modena, Bishop and
Lynn, Ben Ryan and Harriet Lee,
the Dufor Bros., Four Karreys, Don-
als Sisters, and the screen subjects.

"My investigations led to the dis-
covery of a special class of Jewish
sufferers who are neither artisans nor
members of the peasant class or labor
organizations. These are the classes
which are given preference in admit-
tance to hospitals, and their number
is so great that the declassed sufferers
are burred from even the simplest
forms of relief. This situation is
probably the must serious of all the
European Jewish problems at the
present time."

Urrison, • Fuchs, I rofessor Schorr,
Weizmann (brother of Dr. •Chaim
Weizmann, president of the World
Zionist Organization,) and others of
high standing in Jewish cultural life•`. 4-
in that country. These men, like large
numbers of others with whom he
talked, are enthusiastically in favor
of the niovement. Among these were
many Zionists. Mr. Billikopf says
that the Russian Zionists are not, in
the slightest degree, opposed to the
colonization work.
"I spoke to a great many Zion-
iats and to, many sympathizers of
the Zionist movement and I also
spoke to chatuzim, and the Uni-
versal judgment was unanimously in
I favor of the colonization work. They
did not see how anyone could question
the wisdom and desirability of the
land settlement." said Mr. Billikopf.
"I met two or three representatives of
a certain wing of chaluzim who quali-
fied their endorsement by saying that
if colonization in Russia is to super-
cede colonization in Palestine, they
naturally would be opposed to the
work in Russia. I assured them there
was no conflict between the land set-
tlement in Palestine and that in Rus-
sia and that there is no reason why I
the Jews, throughout the world could
s not participate in both the work in
Palestine and in Russia."
Mr. Billikopf emphasized that the
Soviet government does not persecute
the Zionists as such, but as contra-
revolutionists. "Mr. Smidoviteh, the
vice-president of Soviet RUssia, told
me that the government has never pes-
secuted the Zionists who are not ac-
tive in contra-revolutionary activi-
ties." As a proof that the Zionist idea
is not persecuted by the Soviet govern-
! mint, Mr. Billikopf cited the fact that
over 2,111)0 chaluzim are now working
in the Jewish colonies. They are not
interfered with by anybody and they
can leave Russia for Palestine if they
desire to do so, he stated.
