centuries. Keeping pace with this de-
velopment is also the cultural life of
the people. The Hebrew language as
a living tongue has been revived, a
Hebrew culture is rising, nourished by
the Hebrew University on Mt. Scopus
and the Hebrew School System of
Palestine. The latter which is sup-
ported by the Zionist Organization
through the Keren Ilayesod, gives
schooling tee 75 per cent of the chil-

the system comprised 133 institutions
with 622 teachers and 16,132 pupils.
There are, of course, other schools and
institutions in Palestine such as the
schools of the Mizrachi, the Anglo-
Jewish Association and the Alliance
Israelite, some Yeshkvas, the Hebrew
Opera, the Bendel School of Arts and
Crafts and the Haifa Technical Insti-

For the reason that health and san-
itation are fundamental prerequisites
for a truly cultural and active life,
the work of the Hadassah Medical Or-
ganization cannot he overestimated.
Its chain of hospitals, clinics and dis-
pensaries, its infant welfare work, its
health work in schools, colonies and
immigrant camps, represent an asset
that ministers powerfully to our hon-
or and welfare in,the land.
Thus grows up the Jewish common-
wealth in Palestine with its rich and
multi-colored life, finding its suste-
nance in the idealism and national will
of the Jewish people. Once a people
is aroused it can overcome all obsta-
cles in its path towards national ful-
fillment. To this end the United Pal-
estine Appeal in America is devoted
and to this end all those who are truly
Jewish in heart are being their efforts,
means and love.
