A definite piece of work for Pales-
tine, a more crystalized educational
program and a more unified organize-
' (ion, will be the chief features of
Y.iung Judiecas Program for the com-
ing year, as the result of its eigh-
teenth annual convention which took
place on May 28, 2:1, 30 and :31, at
the Scarboro Hotel, Long Brandt, N.
, .1. More than 500 deltgates and visi-
I,,rs were present, the largest gather-
ing of Young Judaeans that ever came
tie a convention.
Chaim Nachman Bialik was the
guest of honor of the convention. On
Saturday morning he addressed the
sp•cial services conducted by Young
Judaea at the Chelsea Avenue Syna-
gogue, with Cantor David Futterman
officiating. Bialik made a vehement
plea for Hebrew, and urged Young
Judaeans to enrich their heritage by
' developing it, instead of allowing it
to lie dormant and fallow. Later in
the afternoon he conducted an inform-
al discussion with the delegates on the
' porch of the hotel.
! The formal opening of the conven-
tion took place Saturday evening,
with Samuel J. Borowsky, executive
' chairman, presiding. Mr. Borowsky
rendered a report on the year's work.
Ile stated that Young Judaea clubs
exist in 144 cities, in 35 states. One
hundred and seventeen clubs affiliated
with National Young Judaea during
the year. The organization has main-
tained the Hebrew Scout Organization
in Palestine, and has raised over $15,-
000 for the Jewish National Fund.
By means of its programs, pamphlets.
The Young Judavan Magazine, and
other literature, it has brought Pales-
tine to the attention of thousands of
boys and girls outside of Young Ju-
daea. Mr. Borowsky presented a
number of suggestions in behalf of
the administration for the considera-
tion of the various committees of the
convention, chief among them was the
inauguration of an individual mem-
bership in Young Judaea, the issuing
ef a Leader's Handbook during the
..iinimer, the adoption of a more defi-
Mee Palestine project and the inaug-
uration of a national appeal for funds.
Mr. Raphael reported for the treasur-
' er, Mr. Racoosin, who is in Palestine,
that not only has Young Judaea main-
tained itself this year, but it has also
decreased its deficit of previous years
by $7,000. Dr. Joshua Neuthann's re-
port on the Young Judaean Magazine
was received with acclaim.
'
David Tannenbaum, vice-president
:of Young Judaea, made the opening
' address. He spoke on the importance
et the educational work of Young Ju-
daea, and pointed out that it was
Young Judaea that had instigated the
Educational Conference which had
met last month in New York.
