The recollections of the years I
spent in Detroit are precious to me.
They were years of the formative pe-

ful for the experiences I had and for
the friendahips I formed and have
kept ever since. My life since then
has enlarged and f have been busy in
responsibilities that tax a man. But
I often revert to the memories of that

"BINDS PEOPLE TO THEIR FAITH"

ISAAC GILBERT

Congregation Beth El of Detroit is
this week celebrating its seventy-
fifth anniversary. This means that
for 75 years without a break Beth El
has been disseminating the principles
and ethics of Reform Judaism to the
people of Detroit and vicinity.
Today it stands a monument to
the enduring faith, the optimism and
the hope of those of us who have in-
herited and who believe in the re-
ligion of our fathers.
This congregation typifies the
thought of the ancient rabbis who be-
lieved that a temple should be first
a house of prayer; second, a house

of knowledge, and third, a house o
assembly. We of Beth El are tryinl
more and more to live up to this con
ception. We believe that our tempi,
is a great force for all things tha
lead toward the betterment of on
community.
We believe that the social and cul
tural activities in which we are en
gaged, reinforced by our religion
services, are strengthening the hind
that, should bind the Jewish peopl
to their ancient faith.
' I, therefore, want to congratolat
the officers and the members of Bet
El upon this memorable occasion an
to add a special word of congratule
tion to the eminent divine who ha
been the rabbi of Beth El for the a
27 years.
God prosper Congregation Beth 1
and strengthen the hands of th o
who serve it.
