Sunday Afternoon CI

The School of Religion of Temple
Beth El has still room for registrants
for its afternoon sessions. While the
Sunday morning session is completely
occupied, the Sunday afternoon ses-
sions are established to give equally
attractive instruction in Jewish his-
tory and Jewish religion. If you know
of a child who is not receiving a Je-w-
ish education, please send him to the
afternoon school of Temple Beth El.

RELIGIOUS WORK
OF JEWISH WOMEN

Temple Sisterhoods Announce Activi•
ties Planned for Season.

CINCINNATI. — A second year
course for child study circles main-
tained by the National Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods is a feature of the
program planned for this year by the
National Committee on Religious
Schools, according to a statement
made by Mrs. Henry Nathan, of Buf-
falo, New York, chairman of the na-
tional committee on religious schools.
The advanced course is being planned,
she said, in answer to the requests
from those local sisterhoods, who, hav-
ing completed the first course, are
anxious to continue their work.
Mrs. Nathan's statement is in the
form of a message to the religious
school chairman of sisterhoods affili-
ated with the national body. In this
message she sets forth a program of
activities for the current year. She
gives many suggestions for work
which she urges the sisterhoods to en-
gage in, pointing out particularly as
an excellent activity, the upbuilding
of Jewish libraries i ntheir localities.
Sirs. Nathan also gave a review of
the work of her group in which she
told of the number of parent teachers'
associations which have been organ-
ized throughout the country, and of
the religious activities in which sis-
terhoods engage ein the different cit-
ies of the country in connection with
religious school work. In many cities,
she said, not only the library but the
Sabbath School itself is maintained
by the sisterhood, and in smaller towns
where there are no rabbis or syna-
gogues, the entire burden of religious
education and activity remains with
the sisterhood. She pointed out that
in many cases the Sisterhoods main-
tain independent schools which they
both finance and conduct.
She also announced that the nation.
al committee has forwarded a list of
literature suitable for juvenile reading
to its local committees, which is in-
tended to help them choose books for
the libraries run in conjunction with
the Sabbath Schools.
