DeReszke Singers, Touring the Country With Will Rogers, to Be in Detroit. 1 OF THE UTMOST The DeReszke Singers, who are touring with Will Rogers this season under the management of Charles I.. Wagner, were discovered by no less a person than Mary Garden. These four young men who form the quratet, Erwyn Match, Hardesty Johnson, Floyd Townsley and Harold Kellogg. are all native born An despite the Polish name they have token fur their quartet. They tuned their quartet in honor of their coach, the late Jean DeReszke, who seas considered not only one of the greatest singers but the moat dis- criminating of teachers. They coached under Jean DeReszke's personal su- pervision at Nice, France, fur two years. They are touring -throughout the country with Will Rogers. "The Revizor," by Gogo, will be performed by the Yiddish Players on Thursday evening, Oct. 22, as one of the literary plays of the present season. Gogol, a master of sardonic hu- mor, with a gift for pricking the many hypocricies which bulked large in the Russia of the Czars, pierces the solemn stupidity of Russian official- dom in his rollicking comedy, "The bu- Revizor (the inspector). THE CIVIC DUTY LEAGUE IS CALLING YOU to a meeting of citizens to discuss ways and means of getting out the vote. Every Jew who has the welfare of his ctiy at years should be there. It will be the most im- portant meeting of its kind ever held in this city. YOU CAN'T MISS IT! YOU MUST BE THERE! Knights of Pythias Hall, 3153 Cass Ave., Thursday, Oct 29, 8:15 P. M. Maenwhile, all subscribres to the symphony concerts, and all who are interested in superior musical produc- , lions, should not miss the magnificent production of "The Student Prince" I at the Shubert-Lafayette, where the I principals, the chorus and the gor- j geous settings combine to make up an evening of music and drama that I is a delight from beginning:to end. YIDDISH PLAYERS WILL SHOW GOGOL'S 'REVIZOR' Arthur Henderson Will Talk Overwhelmingly Outsells All Rivals MUSIC If, as the season advances, the De- troit Symphony Orchestra lives up to, the magnificent standard it net for itself at the first concert last Thurs- day evening abaOrelestra Hall, then we shall have every reason to feel and proudly admit that here indeed we again have an organization the equal' if not better than that which regaled ' us four seasons ago, and which again takes its place wtih the foremost in the world today. Certainly their mu- sic last night was nothing less than a virtuoso performance by a virtuoso orchestra under a most inspired and enthusiastic leader. I have never heard a more brilliant performance' of Weber's "Euryanthe" overture; a ; more eloquent and convincing read- ing of Tschaikovsky's "Fourth Sym-; phony," a more spiritual and pro-; foundly moving exposition of Wag-; ner's "Lohengrin" prelude, nor, fin-. ally, a more clashing and colorful in- terpretation of Itinisky-Korsakoff's "Capriccio Espagnol." Mr. Gabrilo-t witsch was in very fine trim, the or- chestra responded nobly to his slight- est wish and direction, and the en- thusiasm of the audience knew no bounds. This first concert augurs well for the future of the season and should find the Friday night attend- ance as large and responsive as that of the first subscription evening. • • Margaret Storey, Walter Sherwin, Walter Young, Adams T.
