AMERICAN MONEY

Purpose of Hershey for Council
Club Explained by Dr.

Many Polish Institutions Specu-
late on Instability of
Zloty.

WARSAW. - aJ. T. A.) - Three
hundred and fift thousand dollars,
money sent by Am rims to their rel-
atives in Poland f the High Holi-
days, were not paid t o them, accord-
ing to a report published by the Yid-
dish daily paper, Der Hajnt.
The money which was not paid out
was sent through seven Polish banks
which stopped payment last month,
including the Bank Dla Ilandlu i l'rze-
myslu and Bank Ziednoczony.
The charges were made that before
payment was stopped the banks pur-
posely postponed payment of Ameri-
can remittances. Even telegraphic
orders were detained for two to three
weeks for the purpose of meeting
other obligations. The hanks now in-
tend to settle these payments on the
basis as ordinary creditors.
According to reports of the Hajnt,
American banks have urged the Po-
lish banks to immediately execute in
full payment. threatening them with
prosecution. It is understood that the
American consul in Warsaw was in-
structed to negotiate with the Polish
government and the banks concern-
ing the matter.
Hundreds of Jewish families who
expected money from their American
relatives before the holidays were
left in a critical condition owing to
the speculations which the banks car-
ried on with their money.

Something new in the form of
campaign committees has been origi
noted and is now being organized by
Dr. C. E. l'eskin, president of the
Heshey for Council Club. This club
is dedicated to the support of Joseph
Hershey's candidacy. Mr. Hershey
is prominent in Detroit a, a real es-
tate operator.
The new campaign committee com-
prises nearly 100 former friends of
Mr. Hershey while he was living
Cleveland a number of years ago.
"Our chief purpose in forming the
committee," declared Mr. Peskin,
"was to let the public at large know
of Mr. Hershey's long experience as
a public servant and to indicate his
character by making it clear that he
stands high in the regard of those who
have known him for a long period of
years."

"The Student Prince" company has
so established itself in the favor of
Detroit's music lovers and play goers
that it enters Sunday upon its fourth
highly satisfying week at the Shubert-1
Lafayette, the city's new down-town
theater. The engagement of thin com-
pany has given an unusual amount
of vitality to the approaching mu-
sical season, as not often duet; one
have the opportunity of hearing such
a group of singers upon any but the
grand opera stage. The Romberg
score is overflowing with pure har-
mony and provides unusual opportun-
ity for the leading artists in the cast,
while replete also with massive cho-
ruses, dramatic moments and brilliant
concerted numbers.
The author and composer, respect-
ively, Miss Dorothy Donnelly and Sig-
mund Romberg, the collaborators of
the highly successful play, "Blossom
Time," are said to have hit the high-
est marks either has yet attained in
"The Student Prince." The produc-
ers, the Messrs. Shubert, empnamize
the announcement that "The Student
I'rince" will be seen in no other city
in the state.
