PUBLISH

In the closing hours of the year 5685, we deem it our
duty to express to you our most heartfelt thanks for the
splendid co-operation you have given to the cause which
the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of
America represents. You have enabled us to bring before
the Jews of America the message that we bear, and your
advocacy of the aims and purposes of Hies has been a
source of continued strength to us.
We most heartily appreciate all that you have done
and hope that the New Year, for which please receive our
best wishes, will see a continuance of your magnificent
support.

Rosh Hashonah, the New Year, is a clarion call to the
Jews of the world. It summons them to concentrate their
thought upon the cause which they hold in common. The
voice of factional differences is hushed and there is heard
only the call of a common allegiance to Israel's spiritual
mandate. The New Year's Day reminds the Jew of his
work still uncompleted and of his many ideals for the bet-
terment of the human family still unrealized.
At this season the scattered members of the Ilouse of
Israel give thought also to the general conditions of Jewish
life everywhere. We have always felt that Israel is one
indivisible unit; that that which affects one branch of the
family deeply concerns Israel as a whole. It is therefore
that we in America hail with deep joy and satisfaction
the change of policy on the part of several of the Euro-
pean countries as regards our co-religionists and the condi-
tions under which they live. We are thankful for the ray
of light which has entered into their darkened lives, and
we entertain high hopes for the future, when religious,
political and economic liberty shall be theirs as it is ours,
in blessed America.
