cerning reader, will at once reveal
what a fine little schemer Florence
was. Traditionally, the favorite
pretty girl of the set has the hardest
time securing a life partner. It is
one of the mischiefs of fate that the
belle of the ball marries at a late age
and then her catch is generally a man
hailing from out of town. Florence
' was in the class of these belles. When'

the maturing year of 22 was passed
Florence began to look around her

I and saw Peikel. He appealed to her
' and the result was as noted above.
l'eikel became intensely fascinated (
with Florence. She was the only girl
who had dealt coolly with him and
pique—that good old weapon of Cu:
pid's—had struck him to his knees.
, But who can guess the extraordi-
nary workings of Providence? Peikel
called for Florence at the office one
day and took her to lunch. Peikel
was a cosmopolitan, but an inherent,
wayward instinct always prompted
him to frequent Jewish restaurants
when such were at all available. Ii
did not particularly matter to him if
.the window of the restaurant did not
!display the "Kosher" sign. Sufficient
for him was to know that the place
' was run by Jews. Peikel liked to
' eat in a Jewish atmosphere and to
know vaguely that the dishes he ate
were distantly related to the regula-
tions which were laws absolute in his
father's house.
At 1 p. m. Florence and Peikel en. ,
