Harry Friedgut, acting director of
the family welfare department of the
United Jewish Charities, has asked
The Detroit Jewish Chronicle's aid
in locatnig Joseph Mann, about whom !
the flolowing data has been received.'
Any person who can supply the in-1
formation about the present or past
whereabouts of Mr. Mann is asked!
to communicate with Mr. Friedgut.
The data is as follows:
The story of Joseph Mann was re-,
ported by a Mrs. Hobe Mann (nee
Sochinskaya). The parents of Mr.!
Mann died during an epidemic of
cholera in Togograd in 1892 and the
boy was adopted by Aaron Simche !
Mann, owner of a hat factory in To '
gogrttd. When young Joseph was 12
or 13 years old he ran away from his
foster home and boarded a Russian
ship which came to America via the
Black Sea. Later Mr. Mann, Sr.,
died and his children forgot the fos-
ter son until in 1913 the rabbi of
Togograd received a letter from Jo-
seph Mann, who described himself as
a leading politician and "governor"
of Boston (believed to be in Michi-
gan). In this letter he asked for the
whereabouts of his faster father's
children. In the meantime the world
war started and it was impossible to
locate the family.
In 1924 the children of Aaron
Simche (Moishe) Mann, his brother,
Mordche J. Alterovich and the above-
mentioned Mrs. Hobe Mann asked the
National Council of Jewish Women
to find Joseph Mann and advise him
that the heirs or his adopted father.'

are in a critical condition in Harbin'
=!and Togograd. The United Jewish
a I Charities are attempting to locate
Mr. Mann in Michigan.
