The Stranded
Refugees:

THERE are at the pres-
ent time 15,000 Jewish
men, women and children
stranded at various points
of embarkation in Europe,
who, having their vises
approved by the Ameri-
can Consuls, expected to
be admitted to the United
States.

Owing to the recent
enactment of the flohnson
Immigration Bill, these
unfortunates are now ex-
cluded.
Their plight is unspeak-
ably wretched, beggaring
description.

Schools :

IT is a Jewish organ-
i cation operating in
Russia and other Euro-
pean countries, for the ad-
vancement of industrial
training and agricultural
settlement of Jews. Many
thousands of our people
in the war stricken coun-
tries are deprived of a
livelihood and must be
placed in a position to
help themselves. This
great organization seeks
to rescue our people from
beggary and distress, and
by means of loans—not
doles— is making them
self-respecting.

summer camp for working
girls. It has experienced
increasing difficulty in
renting suitable places. A
desirable spot has now
been secured for a per-
manent camp. For the
purchase of land and the
construction and equip-
ment of the necessary
buildings. the sum of
$50.000 is required.

Hebrew Free
Loan Society:

THIS organization lends
money to self-respect-
ing persons, who are anx-
ious to remain self-sup-
porting and find it impos-
sible to borrow at com-
mercial banks. Here they
can obtain loans without
interest to be repaid in
small installments, help-
ing them over emergen-
cies of one kind or an-
other; such as sickness,
accident, unemployment;
or to build up their little
businesses, so as to enable
them to earn a livelihood.

Chautauqua:

was organized in 1893

Henry Berkowitz of
Philadelphia. Through it
thousands of people have
learned Jewish history
and traditions, its activi-
ties extending to univer-
sities and rural districts
where people are far re-
moved from Jewish life,
An endowment fund is

enterprise and Detroit
Jewry is asked to con-
