Philomathic Debating Club.
The question "Resolved, That Con-
gress Be Allowed to Over-Ride De-
cisions of the .Supremo Court by a
Two-Thirds Vote" was debated at the
last meeting of the Philomathic De-
bating Club. The negative was up-
held by Benjamin Kurtzman and Rob-
ert Bernstein, who defeated Norman
Rom and Myer Weisenfeld, affirm!,
five. Robert Bernstein was elected
best speaker. Isadore Berger, speak-
er of the Organization, was critic of
the evening.
"Resolved, That Palestine be Made
a National Home for the Jews" will
be debated at the next meeting. It
will be supported by Norma ROM and
'Gilbert Goodman and opposed by Jack
Thumin and Sidney Koretz. Jack
Thutnin has been appointed chairman
of the committee which will have
charge of the oratorical contest to be
held in December.

Congregation B'nai Zion, recently
organized in the northwest section if
the city, now numbers a membership
of 77 and has applied for a charter.
Plans for the erection of a syna-
gogue are receiving consideration. At
present services are held every Satur-

ance at the Garrick Theater, be-
ginning Sunday, of Raymond Hitch-
cock in a comedy which bears the
very striking title of "Dumb As a
Fox." Mr. Hitchcock has long been
a prime favorite in Detroit through
his previous appearances as the star
in musical comedies. Last season he
surprised his admirers when he op-
!seared in the title character in Don
Marquis' "The Old Soak." In this
role he gave evidence that he was a
