prove the quality of Russian seed, 250
seed-breeding stations were estab-
lished throughout Russia for the mul-
tiplication of seed brought from the
United States. The seed produced in
these breeding stations will cover an

and benefited no less than 50,000
families.
To assist artisans and trade0 in re-
establishing themselves, 107 loan so-
cieties were organized, which ad-
vance money for the purchase of raw
materials and implements, and by this
means 20,000 families have already
been benefited. Forty-two trade
schools have received the assistance
of the committee and have been en-
abled thus to give courses of instruc-
tion to approximately 4,000 children.
A total of $1,240,000 was appropri-
ated for this work.

KUSCHEWSKI BROS.,
The Joint Distribution Committee was organized in October, 1914, as
the agency of American Jewry for the distribution of relief to Jewish war
sufferers in the then war-ridden countries.
The committee represents the following constituent Jewish relief organiz-
ations: American Jewish Relief Committee, Louis Mars. all, chairman;
Central Relief Committee, Leon Kamaiky, chairman, and People's Relief
Committee, Alexander Kahn, chairman. The main offices of the Joint Ins-

officers of the organization are: Felix R. Warburg, chairman ; Herbert II.
Lehman and James N. Rosenberg, vice-chairmen; Paul Baerwald, treasurer;
Mrs. II. B. L. Goldstein, comptroller; William J. Mack, secretary.

In the early period of the work,
when famine was at its peak, more
than 1,000,000 children and 1,000,-
000 adults were fed daily in the Uk-
raine and in White Russia. After
the harvest in 1922 the number of
children fed by the Joint Distribution
Committee funds was reduced to
ci
300.000 daily.
The entire program of the Joint
Distribution Committee in Russia
was reduced so as to complete the
liquidation as of July 1, 1924. This
liquidation was made possible by de
voting all efforts to stimulating and
aiding local organizations to take
over their own social problems.
During the years 19:2 and 1923
over $1,000,000 were spent for Jew-
ish cultural purposes by the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee and its constitu-
ent comrnittees--the American Jew-
ish Relief Committee, the Central Re-1
lief Committee and the People's Re-
lief Committee. The beneficiaries of
this amount have been thousands of
