TO THE 'CELLO

By Aaron Schiff.

I heard thee, 'Cello, played one night;
Thy sweet, melodious (sigh
Rings in my mein'ry even now,
Though many a day's gone by.
Thy cadence tweet still to me clings ,
Like scent of flowers rare
Around the vase that held them,
Though the vase has long been

Like tome lost soul awaiting
For a past it would atone,
Or some sad spirits wand'ring
Through the ages all alone.
There cannot be another voice
Like thine, an sad, yet sweet,
That seems to life the soul on high,
Its Master great to meet:

We cannot listen to thy strains
With aught but purest thought,
Nor fail to deem thy music grand,
The balm we long have sought.
Thy music soothes the heart, as dew
Refreshes grateful flowers,
It seems to heal the misery
That fills this life of ours.

To assist builders and prospective
home owners to understand the quali-
ties of common brick, the Detroit
Common Brick Manufacturers Asso-
ciation has opened offices in room
404, Penobscot Building. George F.
Clippert is secretary of the associa-
tion and it is his desire to co-operate
with the builder in every possible
way.
"One thing the builder should hear
in mind when selecting material for
his structure is that Detroit common
brick, unlike substitute materials,
can be made in only one way, thus
insuring uniform quality," says Mr.
Clippert. "Substitute materials, on
the other hand, may be as variable in
quality as the skill and integrity of
the maker.
