'A duel between the young Polish poet, Anthony Slonimsky, and the
Polish artist Szcuka took place April 16, near Warsaw, with the result that
the latter was wounded. The duel aroused a good deal of interest because
of the circumstances surrounding it. Solonimsky, whose grandfather, chalm

The government of Thurinken has rendered its resignation to the Ger- '
man Diet on account of the demand of the Voelkische partei for the whole.
sale dismissal of all Jews in government positions. The Diet created a new
government, after a compromise was effected with the Voelkische partei

by an agreement to dismiss part of the officials of Jewish origin. The Re
publican press is strong in condemning
the action of the Diet, declaring
m
that it is against the constitution to discriminate against citizens on account
of their race. The press urges the Reich government to intervene in case
an anti-Semitic attempt to change the constitution is made.

The Arab press is giving much attention to the decision of the govern.
merit to introduce a Palestinian currency, independent of the Egyptian
Parliament. and the step already taken in the appointment of a special
committee to study the problem. The Arab papers expressed the fear that
the new Palestinian currency might introduce a Jewish monetary system,
delivering the country into the financial control of the Jews. As result'
of these attacks, the government has issued a statement declaring that the
new Palestinian currency will be connected with the British system and
will be issued directly by the Palestine government and not by private

Replying to the formal protest which the American Jewish Congress
sent to Senator Robert M. LaEollette when it discovered that a petition
by Hungarians for changing the peace treaty contained antiSemitic propa-
ganda and anti-Jewish libels, Robert M. LaFollette, Jr., the son and were-
Cary of the Senator, explained to the American Jewish Congress that Sen-
ator LaFollette is at present too ill to be able to take any action in reply
to the protest, but that he repudiates all the anti-Semitism in the petition
and that the will take action according as soon as he is able to do so.
