There ere 239 graduates from the college, occupying pulpits in every large

The excavations carried on in the Valley of Jehosaphat by the Jewish
.trchaelogical Society under the direction of Professor Nahum Slousch have
been fruitful. Besides the discovery of the tombs of King Jehosaphat and
door was discovered at Jehosophat's
Absalom, the Maccabean prince, a
monument, sculptured in the style of the Jewish-Hellenic period. Steps
leading from Jehosophat's monument to Absalom's were also found, thus
proving the connection between the two. At both tombs many examples'
of contemporary art have been found. Scholars are inclined to the hypothe-
sis that these monuments belonged to Simon, the son of Onias, the Jewish

high Priest of the Maccabean period.

The Thuringen
handed
in his resignation on account of the ultimatum submitted to him .
by Arthur Dinter's Voelkische Partei. The anti-Semitic Nationalist party
'sanded that Stolze dismiss the president of the State Bank, Loeb, a Jew,
threatening that unless he did so the government would be overthrown by
a sole of lack of confidence in the Diet. Stolze considered this demand so
contrary to the hest interests of the country that he preferred resigning
from the government to submitting to the demand of the Nationalist party.
Financial and economic circles in Thuringen sharply condemn the action i
of the anti-Semites against Loeb, contending that it is owing to Loeb's
financial genius that the monetary situation in the province has been con-
F i derably stabilized.
