CHINESE AND AMERICAN The most brilliant artistic event of the coming week will be the dedica- tion of the Murphy organ in Orches- tra Hall, Monday night. This has' been made by the management of the' Symphony Society a gala occasion. last spring it was announced that Mr. and Mrs. William II. Murphy had or- dered of Casavant Freres of Ste. Ilya-1 cinthe a magnificent organ to be placed in Orchestra Hall for the use of the symphony orchestra. The cost of the organ is $50,000. This sum does not include the cost of implrtant structural changes made in Orchestra Ilall before the organ could be in- stalled. The work of installing the organ began early in January and is now finished. The organ is said to be one of the finest in the world. It has been placed in a room back of the boxes on the right-hand side of the hall and all that will be seen is the console, which will be on the stage when the organ is being used. With the orchestra,' the symphony choir, Orchestra Ilall and the Murphy organ, Detroit has a most complete equipment for music. ()rein stra Hall will be crowded Monday night. The concert is in a sense a "family'" affair, inasmuch as most of the seats in the hall have been taken by the regular subscribers to the symphony concerts. Musically, the concert will be a memorable one. M. Marcel Dupre, the famous organist of Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, will be the soloist. The entire Detroit Symphony Orches- tra, under Mr. Gabrilowitsch, will alma take part. The program comprises the l'relude to "Die Meistersinger." four pieces for organ played by M. Dupre and finally Saint-Saens' great C minor symphony for organ and or- chestra. RESTAURANT 9031 Woodward Ave., Near Clairmount Opposite Northern High School. Phone Empire 1070.
