was beholden.. The Sephardic Jews
were among the aristocrats of history.
Their culture, moral intensity, and sos
cial elegance were the result of his-
toric Jewish processes reacted upon
by years of intellectual growth pre-
ceding the Inquisition and by the
martyrdom that followed. But in
their disintegration the South has lust
an asset of incalculable worth.
The South has had in its midst a
relatively small number of Jews. Liv-
