A NCtiCilli !elvish periodical eater CLIFTON ATINUI - CINCINNATI 20, 01110 ■ Is UP-STATE COLUMN By RABBI I. L. BRIL ASIIIIIMINIIINIMM 111401111=8131.. THE PURPOSE In inaugurating a department de- voted to the activities of the Jewish communities outside of Detroit, we have in mind not just the gathering of news items and printing them in these columns. Whilst this section is to be newsy and hence informa- tive, it is to be helpful as well. This department is to be as well a forum in which the problems of the smaller Jewish communities may be discussed. There is to be an inter- change of opinion. By describing the activities in one community the others may learn what they need. Sometimes it may be necessary to criticize; however, this calling atten• tion to evils will never be fault-find- ing merely for the sake of finding — e Builders' Week Specials CCr fault. We hope that what will be said in this department will be of a constructive character. We do not claim infallibility; if we trip, just tell as so. Every week we shall discuss one major problem affecting the smaller communities. The readers are re- quested then to express their opin- ions, The big city has its utmost con- tempt for the smaller community. "Small town stuff," they shout. Well, we want to show that this "small town stuff" is worth while. It may even be possible for the big town to learn something from the despised small town. Send in your news items. Let it be brief, newsy, and don't deal in per- sonalities. Tell us what your com- munity is doing; tell us what it ought to be doing; ask us how we can help you. Please write on one side of the page only and sign your name and address. We don't like anonymous letters and they will not be consid- ered. 1. L. BI111.. FLINT Wed. Eve.
