Language Library to Open:

Commencing Jan. 14, a foreign li-
brary will be opened at the Jewish
Institute, 1111 Westminster. There
will be an extensive list of books
available in Yiddish, Hebrew, Rus-
sian and Polish, along with a few
magazines and periodicals. This
branch is sponsored by the educa-
tional department of the Jewish In-
stitute in its desire to make available
facilities handy for those living In the
Oakland district. The invitation, how-
ever, is extended to all who care to
avail themselves of this branch, and
we urge book lovers to make this
their "Mecca."

Checker Tournaments

This is to remind checker enthusi-
asts that the tounament is now under
way, but more players are needed.
It is the plan of the Recreation Com-
mission to have a city elimination
contest and the Jewish Institute is
anxious to have a good representation
in that contest. We urge those in-
terested to leave their names with
