Professor Cuza, leading instigator of the anti-Semitic students' agitation
in Roumania, received but two votes in the election for Rector of the

Denying as untrue the rumors that the Vatican had inspired Cardinal
Faulhaber's letter to Premier Streseman in which the Cardinal of Munich
decried the anti-Jewish agitation and expulsion in Germany, the official
Italian news agency "Vote" says the Cardinal's protest accords with the
spirit of the Vatican's constant exhortation.

Samuel Raphaeli, noted munismatist and archaeologist, died at his
home last Thursday. A resident of Palestine for many years, Mr. Raphaeli,
despite his great scholarship, earned his living by clerking and similar
modest occupations. He was a frequent contributor to the publication
of the Palestine Exploration Fund. As an authority on Palestinian coins,
he was in constant touch with scholars the world over, who referred to
him all mooted questions regarding Phoenician, Syrian and other coins. At
the time of his death Mr. Raphaeli held the position of curator of coins in
the Palestine Government's Museum, and was a director of the Jewish
Exploration Society. For some time he served as superintendent of the
Rothschild Hospital of the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem.

MOVING

A move to retain in Republican Poland the Russian Czar's disability
clauses where Jews are concerned came to light today with the withdrawa l
by leaders of the Government Party of the draft of the law abolishing
formally, throughout Congress Poland, the restrictions as applied to Jews.
Jewish members of the National Assembly submitted a vigorous interpella•
tion against the attempt to perpetuate at least in law the resrtictions of
monarchist Russia. The Jewish representatives point to Article 126 of
the constitution directing the government to reconcile the prevailing law
with the construction of the Polish Republic. They demand the reintroduc-
tion of the legislation introduced under Premier Sikorski's Government,
calling for the abolition of the anti-Jewish discriminatory clauses.

The other day a certain well known

easy payment plan. He simply opened
fifty of our new "Buy '1,000" accounts.

A cable from Lucien Wolf, General Secretary of the Joint Foreign
Committee of the Jewish Board of Deputies and the Anglo-Jewish Associa-
tion of Engalnd, informs the American Jewish Congress that the British
Government had been asked to make representations to Munich regarding
the expulsions from Bavaria, the message indicating that such action might
be expected almost at once. The inquiry as to possibe action by the Jews
of England was made by the American Jewish Congress at the same time
that representations were made to the German Ambassador in Washington
and the Secretary of State. Mr. Wolf's cable is explicit on the point of
the value of the cooperation of the American Jewish Congress, which has
taken action with regard to securing possible relief for the Jews of Ger-
many.

In four years this man will have accu-
mulated $50,000 in cash, which sum he
requires for a specific purpose. And it
will actually cost him but $47,000.

If you wish to have $1,000 or any multiple
thereof, even $100,000, in from one to
four years time for some certain purpose,
you will be interested in this new plan.

The salvation of Germany and the regeneration of its people depends
on the complete suppression of the Jews of Germany, is the opinion of Herr
Maurenbrecher, editor-in-chief of the anti-Semitic Deutsche Zeitung, who
devotes a leading article to the question or ridding Germany of the Jews
and Jewish influence. Herr Maurenbrecher, formerly a socialist, proposes
that the Jews be deprived of their citizenship rights, to be followed by
their removal from the press, theatre, universities, government offices,
parliament, banks and the bourse. The modern Hayman proposes as a
further effective measure the seizure of Jewish fortunes in favor of the
German State Treasury. Herr Maurenbrecher goes so far as to suggest
that the repression of the Jews should be extended to such Christians even
whose origin can be traced to some Jewish ancestor.

A resolution providing for a world conference of Jewish women to
meet periodically, as a conference, for the discussion of programs and
problems affecting Jewish womanhood, was adopted at the close of the
tenth triennial convention of the Council of Jewish Women in St. Louis.
This plan is the outgrowth of the Women's Council's reconstruction work
of the past three years and of the Jewish Women's World Conference in
Vienna last May. Mrs. Alexander Kohut is Chairman of the committee
to promote plans for the calling of the next conference at which the
periodic conference program will be made permanent. Women from sev-
eral countries will serve on this committee, in addition to Mrs. Nathaniel
E. Harris. chairman of the committee of foreign relations, and Mrs. Estelle
M. Sternberger, executive secretary. The suggestion has been made that
the next conference be held in 1925.

A medical library, containing the latest books on medicine including a
number of rare publications on the history of medicine, valued at more than
$50,000, has been bequeathed to the Beth Israel Hospital of New York City
by the late Dr. Jacob Rosenbloom of Pittsburgh, Pa., the eminent meta-
boPst who died an Sept. 25. The gift was made through Dr. Max Kahn.
Director of Laboratories of Beth Israel Hospital, who was a friend and
co-worker of Dr. Rosenbloom. Superintendent Louis J. Frank of Beth
Israel said that this Library will be placed in the new Beth srael Hospital
now nearing completion on Livingstone Place between Sixteenth and
Seventeenth streets. According to Dr. Kahn, renowned in the scientific
world as the discoverer of Intarvin for diabetes and who is Associate
Professor of Biochemistry at Columba University and Chief of the Depart-
ment of Metabolism of Beth Israel Hospital of New York, the gift of this
immense medical library will be of greatest value to the physicians of New
York. The collection consists of medical books and treatises of every coun-
ty in the world and also contains some rare medical works which were
written centuries ago.
