We are informed by cable from At-
lanta, Ga., that a Negro who gave his
name as Freeman has confessed to the
murder for which Leo Frank was
found guilty and later lynched in his
fail cell. Freeman states in his con-
fession that the crime was committed
by him together with his friend, Jim
Conley, also • Negro.
It is learned that Freeman's confes-
sion was made in 1913, when he feared

that he was to die as a result of a
serious illness. John Sc. Slaton, gov-
ernor of Georgia at the time Frank
was lynched, was in possession of the
sworn confession Reverel days before
an organized mob attacked the jail in
which Leo Frank was Imprisoned and
lynched the young Jew. For political
reasons, the governor did not make
the confession public. R. E. David-
son, the then chairman of the prison
commission, also knew of the confes-
sion, but ignored it.
On Thursday, eight years after the
tragic death of Leo Frank, this con-
fession was published for the flrst
time.

Sousa's Band Coming Oct. 21.

Of the three special soloists who
will he heard with Lieutenant Com-
mander John Philip Sousa's famous
band, when he brings it to Orchestra
Hall for afternoon and evening con-
certs, Sunday, Oct. 21, two will be new
to Detroit—Rachel Senior, the violin-
ist, and Nora Fauchald, soprano.
Winifred Hambrick, the diminutive
harpist, who has been an adornment
to Sousa programs for several sea-
sons past, is still with the organiza-
' ties, making the third of the usual
trio.
Miss Fauchald, the soprano, is an
American product, though born in
Norway, while her mother was there
on a visit. She began her musical)
career As a pianist and violinist in I
Minot, N. D., and by the time she was'
15 had won herself quite a local repu-
tation. It was shortly after her grad-
uation from the New York Institute
of Musical Art that Sousa heard her
and advised her to devote a year to
special coaching. This fall he gave
her an engagement with his band,
Miss Senior is also the product of
the American hinterland, hem and
reared in Mason City, Ia. She inher-
ited musical tastes from her father,
whose hobby was making violins, and
completed her education under Franz
Kneisel and I.eopold Auer. The in-
strument she uses with the orchestra
was made by her father before she
was born.
