ATTEMPT TO AROUSE RACE HATRED IS
UN-AMERICAN AND IN VIOLATION
OF GOD'S LAW

Popular Young Matron and Lovely Children

By WOODBRIDGE N. FERRIS,
United Stmes Senator from Michigan.

DODGE BROTHERS

Every New Year, whatever it is, should bring joy to all
of the people of the world. We are no longer an isolated
nation. We are one people, one brotherhood. There is
no escape from that ethical doctrine. I hope the Jewish
New Year will bring to the Jewish people of the world a
great joy, and in bringing great joy to the Jewish people
great joy to all the other peoples of the earth. Every at-
tempt to arouse race hatred is un-American and is a vio-
lation of God's law. Through the Ferris institute I have
come to know a great many Jewish students and they have
always maintained a warm place in my heart. I sincerely
hope that the Jewish nation, as well as all other nations,
may contribute to the progress of real democracy. May
all nations of the earth live together in peace and harmony.
The Jewish holidays symbolize this sort of peace.

TOURING CAR

The comfort and beauty of this new
touring car are instantly apparent.

Long underslung springs, deeper
seats and greater body length
have resulted in an unusual degree
of riding ease.

The body is exceptionally trim and

graceful. Swung low to the road,
with long, straight hood-and-cowl
effect and tasteful appointments,
the car reveals new value and
sound workmanship in every detail.

By DR. CYRUS ADLER,
President of Dropsie College and Acting President of the
Jewish Theological Seminary of America.

I am glad to avail myself of the opportunity to send
through The Detroit Jewish Chronicle New Year's Greet-
ings to the Jewish people of the State of Michigan and
wherever else The Chronicle reaches. I trust that they all
may be inscribed and sealed for a year of life and health
and happiness. I would ask them at this solemn season
to consider well the special obligations which they have
to maintain the Jewish tradition in this happy land of our
adoption. This they can do best by being good men and
good women and good Jews, by providing generously for
the maintenance of their synagogues and schools, and by
seeing to it that their homes shall be maintained as sanctu-
aries of the Jewish life.
No amount of material or intellectual success in any
direction will ever compensate the Jewish people for the
loss of these three bulwarks, the home, the school and
the synagogue.

We wish our many
friends a Happy and
Prosperous New Year

By Max Boshwits, Memphis, Tenn.

A speeding car ran o'er a boy
While urchin sold the news; '
, The Chauffeur was a drunken Goy;
The levy belonged to Jews.

A cop picked up the boy so pale!
"0 stand aside—make room."
The crowd all cried: "Take brute to
jail!"
As ear took boy to home.

Il is mother dwelt in Ghetto poor,
A younger son had she;
The twain she loved to heart's deep
core!
In home of poverty.

When doctor came and saw the plight,
Ifs sadly shook his head;
"The boy will pass away tonight,"
Is all the doctor said.

The mother cried—as mothers cry
When hope forsakes the heart;
Its wailing woe, its sobbing sigh!
• When tender ties depart.

The value of the brick house has never been
questioned. Of course, everybody prefers
a brick house, but many have been led to
believe that it was "expensive."

"Don't cry! perhaps I will get well—
You've brother—maminale."
He'll soon be grown —then news he'll
sell;
When I have passed away.

• From News I sold six bucks did save—
Give all to Sehool if I die;
Let them say Kaddish der my grave—
Oh, 111/11111118 dear—don't cry!

HOMES

takes more money to pay for a "cheaper" frame house than for a
"more expensive" brick
I T house.
The true cost of any given house must include not only the contract or purchase

price, but also the money paid out for its upkeep.

T HE greatest saving with the brick house is due to its slow deterioration. Engineers say

that the life of a frame house is from thirty to forty years, depreciation starting the mo-
ment the house is completed ; while the average brick house lasts a century and does not begin
to depreciate until it has been built five years.

A

development in bricklaying, it has become possible to erect
a beautiful, substantial,
B Y dry a new
and fire-safe house at a cost no more than frame and much less than any other per-

manent or half-way permanent type. This is a great boon for the average man. It is a bless-
ing especially. to the man of limited income who has been kept from home owning by the bur-
den of painting and upkeep. Many have paid profiteering rent prices because they felt they
could not afford the expense of canying their own home. This is changed. The IDEAL
WALL brings a brick home within the reach of every man.
