Dr. Joseph Silverman Reports on Karen Hayesod Tour With Dr. Goldstein;
Veteran Rabbi Honored by Leaders of Movement.
NEW YORK.—Reform Jews of
.America are beginning to understand
the true significance and historic ne-
cessity for the rebuilding of I'ales-
tine, was the gist of a message deliv-
ered by Dr. Joseph Silverman, Rabbi
Emeritus of Temple Emanuel, on his
return from a six weeks' tour of the
far west and Pacific coast in the in-
terests of the Keren Itayesod. Dr. Sit-
' verman made this tour of the princi-
ple Jewish centers of hte West togeth-
er with Dr. Alexander Goldstein, the
noted Zionist leader and publicist of
Russia.
The two gone their impressions of
their experiences as emissaries for the
country trip to convert a great por-
tion of the west of this country, to an
acceptance of the proposition that Pal-
estine can, and ought to be rebuilt as
a home of refuge for the persecuted
ewe of Eastern Europe. We made a
brief stop at Syracuse and Chicago,
and then proceeded to Des Moines,
Iowa, Kansas City, Denver, Leaven-
worth, Salt Lake City, LOS Angeles,
San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
This trip took all of Rix weeks. It was
six weeks of unremittant travel, brief
sojourns, coupled with the arrange-
ment of conferences, public meetings,
temple or synagogue services and lec-
tures, public lectures and banquets, to
say nothing of many private parlor
conference, and innumerable per-
sonal interviews with men and women
who were averse to Palestine recon-
struction and especially to Zionism.
The trip was also deplete with many
incidents of a social as well as per-
sonal character; incidents such as or-
dinary tourists or travelers do not
generally meet with. There were al-
so experiences that supplied us with
much food for thought and construc-
tive work,
