The Purim Carnival at Shaarey Ze-
dek Suday evening, March 4, attract-
ed a very large gathering. There
were fully 1,000 people present. The
carnival was a combination bazaar
and dance, given under the auspices
of the ladies' Auxiliary and Men's
Club, with a buffet supper served by
the Auxiliary. The affair was a com-
plete success in every way. At the
bazaar every article offered was dis-
posed of, the buffet supper was
enjoyable and most every-
I thoroughly

The funds derived from the affair
will be used by the ladies' Auxiliary
to pay for a scholarship at the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary, and by the
Men's Club for some improvements
in equipment of the building.
School teachers of the city and
representatives from various organiz-
ations were guests of the Jewish
Woman's Club at the regular meet-
ing on Monday afternoon, when Dr.
Rachel Yarros, resident physician of
Hull House, Chicago, who was in De-
troit lecturing under the auspices of
the Parent - Teachers Association,
talked on "Biological Facts of Chil-
dren," illustrating her interesting lec-
ture with stereopticon views. Dr.
Yarros, who is an eminent authority
on this subject, stressed the fact that
children should be educated in the
functionnig of the brain, as the in-
dividual is born with fundamental in-
stincts, and said that it is the boun-
den duty of every mother to teach in
a beautiful way such ocietnific facts
as to help one to understand the hu-
man ideals.
Mrs. Emma A. Fox, the well known
parliamentarian. talked on the pro-
posed Condon hill before the State
Senate, and it was voted by the club
to send a telegram to Mr. Condon
endorsing the proposed bill.
Miss Eleanor Ilutzel, head of the
women's division of the police de-
partment, told of the work of her de-
partment and said it is the best or-
ganized in the Unted States. Mrs.
Alfred Breitenbach gave a report of
the work accomplished by the public
health department. Announcement
was made that Rabbi Louis Wolsey
of Cleveland wlil be the speaker at
the next regular meeting.
